A new Patent application was filed by our partner Ikerlan on a BATTERY CELL STACK PRESSING DEVICE
It is known that battery cells tend to change in thickness due to different factors such as temperature, state of charge, or aging. Exerting pressure on the battery cells forming the cell stack is also known, as it directly influences the efficiency and degradation thereof.
The patent presented by Ikerlan for SSB compression solution redefines the passive compression of the cells by means of a mobile system, where a specific element maintains the compression towards the desired optimal range. The innovation is in the design and integration of this specific element, improving volumetric energy density of the module, comparing to standard solutions which demand high volumes for the compression elements positioning, such as with spring compression.
Ikerlan has designed and adapted this solution for the SSB developed on PULSELiON project, enabling a robust compression system that will enhance the performance and lifespan of the cells, and considerably reduce the necessary space for the compression elements of the module.
